As financial advisors to Versicherungskammer Bayern, we assisted in the acquisition of the Ferngas Group from First Sentier Investors for 720 million euros. Only a few days after the final bids were received by First Sentier in the auction process handled by Rothschild & Co, the purchase agreement was already signed. Other bidders included Snam, J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Swiss Life. As operator and owner of a regulated gas network of more than 3,000 kilometers in Bavaria, Thuringia, Hesse, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, Ferngas Group supplies more than 60 downstream gas network operators and large corporate customers. In doing so, the company is making a significant contribution to the energy transition in Germany: Ferngas is currently renewing and expanding a major pipeline in Thuringia (EGL 442) with a total investment volume of 180 million euros. In addition, the Group is supporting the first nationwide hydrogen infrastructure project, the “H2-Startnetz 2030”.
